Early Access to Pension on the Table

The Federation of Trade Unions, COSATU says it’s still waiting on national treasury to approve their request for an urgent meeting with Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana to express frustrations over the decision to deny public servants’ early access to their pensions.

Last week, Treasury issued a statement on its approach to growing calls for members of retirement schemes to have access to part of their savings, as the economic impact of COVID-19 hits household budgets hard.

Cosatu had proposed that members be allowed to access 30% or R30 000 of their savings.

The federation’s Sizwe Pamla says they reject this unwanted isolation and victimisation of public servants.
