The Department of Basic Education says loadshedding continues to be a thorn in the working environment for educators, especially during the current final exam season.

Department Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says learners don’t generally depend on the lights during exams due to natural day light, however load shedding disrupts other things that have a direct connection to learners.

He says learners have been arriving late due to traffic congestion caused by defective traffic lights as a result of the power outages, and even marking processes may be hampered.

Eskom has implemented stage 4 loadshedding due to ongoing generation capacity shortages

Mhlanga says their main concerns are exam papers and learners arriving on time.
