Education Department Postpones Schools Reopening

Basic Education Deputy Minister Reginah Mhawule says the reopening of schools will be postponed to the 15th of February.

The ministry is holding a media briefing on plans to reopen schools in 2021.

Initially schools were suppose to open on the 25th of January but the school calendar has been revised due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Mhawule says the basic education’s priority right now is saving lives, adding that they are leading with the advice of the command council.

On the issue of independent/private schools, the Department will persuade the association of private schools to delay the opening of schools and for those who are open, to close, in line with the recommendation of schools to open on 15 February.
