Education Department Promises to Pay EAs and GSAs Stipends this Month

The department of Basic Education says it is working with provincial education departments to ensure that all qualifying assistants and general school assistants are paid this month.

This follows more than 300 000 assistants being recruited nationally, under the Presidential Employment Stimulus initiative, to start work from December to March yet thousands of them remain unpaid.

Last week, parliament’s portfolio committee on basic education intervened and said the department needed to account for the delay.
