EFF Says Eskom CEO Must Be Fired

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have called for the immediate firing of Eskom’s entire board, including its Chief Executive Officer Andre de Ruyter and Chief Operating Officer Jan Oberholzer.

The party says the incompetence and arrogance of Eskom executives has plunged South Africa into a perpetual and unwarranted darkness that is killing businesses and livelihoods.

Eskom has implemented stage 5 power cuts as it struggles with its ailing infrastructure and the utility says the country’s power crisis was not an overnight issue, but a culmination of government’s decisions from as far back as the 90s.

EFF spokesperson Leigh-Anne Mathys says the party has consistently warned against the immoral and dishonest intention of handing over South Africa’s energy generation sovereignty to the greedy establishment that will influence all spheres of life, including the future of the country’s political future.
