President Cyril Ramaphosa says the footsteps of democracy have played out throughout the country as elected mayors, speakers and councillors took office.

He says the outcome is disappointing for the ANC, but the ruling party should accept the clear message from the people of South Africa.

He was speaking to the media in Pretoria during Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta’s state visit.

Ramaphosa says his party has been thought a well-deserved lesson by voters in the local government elections.

He adds that the ANC will work even harder than before to turn people’s lives around.
