Mineral Resources and Energy minister, Gwede Mantashe has concluded his working visit in Nigeria.
The purpose of this visit was to take advantage of, and strengthen the human and political economic relationships between the two countries.
Mantashe met with his Nigerian counterpart, the minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva discussing existing economic capacities and capabilities.
Consequently, discussions focused on the oil and gas sectors and the extent to which these can benefit South African and Nigeria.
Already Nigeria is a substantial supplier of crude oil to South Africa.
Mantashe says this was an important and successful visit that will impact positively on investments between the two countries.
Furthermore, the department will urgently conduct an assessment of petroleum products supply in the country, following an incident that occurred at the Engen Oil Refinery in Wentworth, south of Durban.
