Power Utility, Eskom, says it remains hopeful that wage talks with the unions will go smoothly.
Workers union, NUMSA, is engaged in ongoing wage negotiations with Eskom, at the Central Bargaining Forum.
Among other things that the workes are demanding is a 15 % wage increase, along with an end to salary inconsistency.
Last year in a turnaround strategy to save the utility, they offered 2000 voluntary severance packages.
The power utility’s Spokesperson, Sikhonathi Mantshatsha, says the outcome of these talks will place the interest of the country first.

As wage talks continue, the power utility has warned that this could affect not only the financially strapped State Owned Entity, but also the already ailing economy as well.
Mantshatsha says in this current state, the country cannot afford to stain investor confidence or even disrupt the smooth supply of electricity.
