The African National Congress (ANC) branch chairs and secretaries in eThekwini region have resolved to nominate Zweli Mkhize as the party’s president and Paul Mashatile as deputy president.
Mkhize is expected to go head-to-head against incumbent Cyril Ramaphosa and Cogta MEC Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma for the top job at the party’s 55th conference in December.
The decision comes a day after Mkhize, a former health minister received a thumbs-up from zone three in his home region of Moses Mabhida, which also resolved to support him for president.
The former health minister resigned from his position last year amid the Department of Health’s Digital Vibes scandal.
EThekwini region spokesperson Mlondolozi Mkhize says they will now lobby other regions for support.
