Ratepayers in the eThekwini Municipality will feel the pinch as tariff increases come into effect next month.

The city will increase water, electricity, and waste removal rates from the 1st of next month.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says they tried to keep the increases to affordable levels amid the tough economic climate.

The property rates and refuse will increase by 4.9%, water by 8.5% while electricity is set for a 14.59% spike.

Kaunda, through his spokesperson Msawakhe Mayisela, says the percentages are the lowest in the past five years.
