The Durban Regional Court has dismissed an application by eThekwini Municipality’s city manager to allow him to return back to work, pending a corruption case he is currently facing.
Sipho Nzuza, Former City Mayor Zandile Gumede and others are accused of fraud in a R320-million Durban Solid Waste (DSW) tender.
Part of his bail conditions include that he not be allowed to sit in the city’s accounting official chair.
This condition will last until after the criminal trial against him has been concluded.
Magistrate Garth Davis says evidence shows that Nzuza protected other accused in the matter.
