The Pietermaritzburg Economic Justice and Dignity Group has called on the government to consider a back-to-school grant for struggling families.
The organisation’s Mervyn Abrahams has highlighted that children receiving the child support grant should be afforded a top-up amount at the beginning of each year to help cover stationery and uniform expenses.
Abrahams calls for the grant payment of 480-rand to be doubled in January.
