The Automobile Association claims that the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy purposely delayed the announcement of fuel increase to protect the ANC.
AA spokesperson Layton Beard says this shocking increase waited until the local government elections to save the leading party at the polls.
Beard says they are demanding to see a review of fuel levies and will be writing to parliament for a full report.
Last week petrol went up by R1.21, Diesel by R1.48 while paraffin saw an increase of R1.45.
Beard says with the already ailing economy, elements that contribute to the fuel inflation should be investigated to determine if they are truly necessary.
He says even the announcement of the increase is questionable.
