Durban, Friday, 17 February 2023 – yesterday Grammy award-winning musician, Zakes Bantwini had hundreds of supporters, who turned out to welcoming him back home at the King Shaka International Airport, north of Durban.
Zakes Bantwini 42 recently walked away with a Grammy Award in the “best global music performance category’’ for their hit song, ‘Bayethe’ which features, Wouter Kellerman and Nomcebo Zikode.
In his speech, Zakes tells the attendees to work hard:
It makes me feel so happy to come home to such a beautiful welcome. My biggest request for everyone here, is to work as hard as possible.
So that this kind of welcome doesn’t end with me but continues further for others.
Mbusi Sokhela known as DJ Sox says, the Bantwini’s achievement is a huge recognition for the country’s music industry.
Look, we are so excited … It’s a great win for South Africa, it’s a big win for KZN, it’s a big win for Durban. We are so proud of Zakes. I think it’s important to send a message that wherever you are in South Africa just do music in your corner be it if you are in Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth or Cape Town gone are the days when everybody had to go to Johannesburg, music should come from all over the country.
Gagasi FM then handed over its kindest gesture to the Grammy award winning musician, Zakes Bantwini as a token of appreciation. This sets the volume of recognising the contributions Bantwini has contributed continuously to the music and entertainment industry.
Zakes who hails from the KwaMashu township has been the toast of the town since he broke out into the music industry. By him scooping the Grammy accolade internationally, as Gagasi FM we are proud of this achievement, and it will forever be remembered by this generation and the next.
