The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) has withdrawn its controversial statement on the impact Covid-19 vaccines have on women’s reproductive health.
It says it erroneously quoted an article published in a medical journal.
Earlier this month the commission released a statement, alleging possible consequences of vaccination on women’s reproductive health.
The CGE had also alleged that the publication by the medical journal found that vaccines may cause a small change to the menstrual cycle length, but that this change was temporary.
The Department of Health has criticised the statement saying the commission did not consider all available evidence.
Commission chairperson Tamara Mathebula says they regret that the statement has led to the unnecessary distraction of public attention away from the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.
