George Floyd’s Spirit Lives

The US House of Representatives has passed the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act.

This is a police reform bill that will ban choke-hold and eliminate qualified immunity for law enforcement.

Floyd’s death in May last year took the international community by storm, sparking anti racism and anti police brutality marches worldwide.

He died after a Minneapolis police official, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck for nearly nine minutes, as he cried out that he could not breathe.

Democratic representative Karen Bass, who co-wrote the legislation, says the bill aims to bolster police accountability.
