The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has opened a case against Public Enterprises minister Pravin Gordhan at the Hillbrow Police Station, in Johannesburg.

This after Chief Justice, Mogoeng Mogoeng, told the Judicial Services Commission that Ghordan requested a meeting to inquire about the progress of his “friend” Dhaya Pillay, who is one of the candidates vying for one of two positions at the Constitutional Court.

Mogoeng had said Ghordan proceeded to ask if Pillay had any chance of being shortlisted.

EFF deputy president Floyd Shivambu says attempt to influence the appointment is abuse of power and violation of the constitution.

He says this action, at the time Gordhan was the Finance Minister, violated the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities  Act 12 of 2004, abusing his authority to benefit another.
