KwaZulu-Natal Education, Kwazi Mshengu, says government employees who previously benefited from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) will be forced to pay it back.
Mshengu says they’ve met with the Premier and provincial government in efforts to find solution to current issues regarding finances at different institutions around the province.
“The issue of historical debts for students is one of the issues that is affecting all universities across the country, so we need to find a solution to tackle this issue. One of the solutions that the KZN government is providing is to say let’s look around our employees who have studied through NSFAS and then force them to pay off their historical debts,” explains Mshengu.
He says these workers are now getting a salary from government and they should help other students in need.
