Government Engages with Young Entrepreneurs

Young entrepreneurs from different sectors of business in KwaZulu-Natal have expressed concerns that their businesses are facing in this economic climate.

This comes as they were engaging with the provincial Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (EDTEA) MEC, Ravi Pillay, in Pietermaritzburg at the DUT Indumiso Campus, discussing issues ranging from youth economic empowerment, job creation for youth, economic recovery and EDTEA’s programme for youth empowerment.

During the engagement, this is what some of these entrepreneurs had to say,

 

 

Meanwhile, MEC Pillay says his department will continue supporting the youth in business through funding that is available in the province.

The MEC further says, his department has currently allocated of budget of R67,7 million as part of job creation focusing on the youth.

“In this financial year we aim to place 1000 young people in employment through the Youth Technical Skills Placement programme and also to assist 500 unemployed graduates with employment referrals, placement and training as part of the KZN Unemployed Graduates Assistance Programme,” explains Pillay

Furthermore, Msunduzi Mayor Mzimkhulu Thebolla, says programs implemented by the provincial government to enhance business would be of great assistance to the youth and grow their business mind.

The mayor says although South Africa has a high unemployment rate, such youth initiatives will better the challenges faced by the youth in business.
