Government wants the taxi industry regulated

Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula, says the taxi industry needs to be dignified and can’t be allowed to continue to regulate itself.
He’s been speaking at the launch of National Taxi Lekgotla in Johannesburg.
The lekgotla is set to take place in October, and will discuss various issues affecting the sector, including regulations and the formalisation of the industry.

Meanwhile the Congress of the People believes it cannot be business as usual, as the hard lockdown has left millions of people unemployed, most of them women.
A recent study has showed that three-million South Africans lost their jobs during the lockdown, with women accounting for two million of those.
