DA leader John Steenhuisen has dug in his heels after the uproar from the party’s election posters in Phoenix in KwaZulu-Natal, saying he will not apologise and is standing his ground in defending the election posters.
‘The ANC called you racists’ and ‘The DA calls you heroes” is what the poster reads which has caused a stir, accusing the party of racism.
Steenhuisen says these posters celebrate heroism in that community.
During the July riots in KZN, at least 22 Black people were killed in the Phoenix Massacre, including an 11-year-old boy.
Families of victims that were killed by Phoenix vigilantes during the unrest have lashed out at these posters, calling the DA out for encouraging the killers and branding the DA as politically shallow when it wants votes.
However, Steenhuisen says they will not be apologising or taking down these posters.
