The Democratic Alliance (DA) says Parliament’s portfolio committee on Tourism needs to urgently commence with an investigation into the controversial Tottenham Hotspur sponsorship deal.

This comes as SA Tourism acting chief financial officer, Johan van der Walt, has been served with a notice of suspension.

Reports are that Van der Walt admitted to having links to an agency that was set to receive over 30-million-rand from SA Tourism from the deal.

SA Tourism proposed a three-year deal with the English Premier League side, worth R900 million rands, starting at the beginning of the 2023/24 season and ending at the end of the 2026/27 season.

The DA’s Manny de Freitas, says it appears there is much-hidden information that needs to be exposed.
