The South African Communist Party (SACP) has urged Former Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng to issue an apology for his pro-Israel comments he uttered more than a year ago.
Mogoeng who is known not to hold back on his religious views, made what was deemed as pro-Israel comments while addressing a seminar hosted by the Jerusalem Post in 2020.
The Judicial Conduct Appeals Committee has ordered the former Chief Justice to apologise, after he was found to have breached the code of judicial conduct.
He has until the 3rd of February to issue this apology or face court action.
SACP Central Committee Member Alex Mashilo says Mogoeng’s apology will help restore faith in the public’s trust in the judiciary.
