Newly appointed Cell C Sharks coach John Plumtree says he’d like to get the Sharks to play a good brand of Rugby and get the players to enjoy themselves on the field. Plumtree was unveiled as the new Sharks senior team head coach, which is a role that he vacated eleven years ago. The New Zealander previously had a successful stint with the Sharks between 2008 and 2012 as he won two Currie Cup titles (in 2008 and 2010) and took the Sharks to the 2012 Super Rugby Final.

Plumtree will take charge of first team duties on 1 July 2023 ahead of a brand new Rugby season, taking the reigns from Neil Powell who will return to his duties as the director of Rugby. He believes the Sharks have a talented group of players that he will work with, and will get them to play a good brand of Rugby and enjoy themselves on the field.
