The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says it will not speculate on any threats of court action following its decision to re-open candidate nominations for political parties for the upcoming local government elections.
A number of opposition parties have made their intentions of heading to court over the decision known, saying it makes a mockery of the elections and the Constitutional Court.
Candidate registration will re-open on 20 and 21 September, giving parties another opportunity to register their candidates after missing the initial deadline.
IEC Chief Electoral Officer, Sy Mamabolo, says they will comment on the threats once actual action has been taken.
