The Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) in Ethekwini says it is in full support of the municipality borrowing a loan of 1.5 billion from Finance.
This follows an explosion at the Klaarwater substation that left half of Durban without water and electricity.
IFP Councilor Mdu Nkosi says a large part of Durban is still reeling from the floods that damaged infrastructure in April.
Recently the African National Congress lead municipality came under fire following its plans to borrow another R1 billion to finance big projects in the Municipality.
Last year, the Municipality placed an advert asking for a loan from financial institutions of about R1bn.
Nkosi says they are now on board with this loan borrowing as the city needs to move forward with fixing its infrastructure.
