The KwaZulu-Natal South African National Taxi Council (SATACO) has affirmed its support of the newly launched Transport Department’s AARTO system.
The Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences (AARTO) Act was signed into law by President Cyril Ramaphosa in 2019.
The demerit system will take away a point every time a driver is found to be in violation of traffic laws, which will see motorists losing their driver’s licenses.
However the implementation of the act has been suspended for next year.
Speaking to Gagasi FM News, KZN SANTACO Office Manager Sifiso Shangase says as much they welcome the system, however, there are few concerns that still need to be raised.
