Transport minister Fikile Mbalula has blamed the backlog in the issuing of car licenses on a malfunctioning machine.

He says the machine being used for the process has been sent to Germany for repairs.

Mbalula could not tell when the repairs will be completed as there were delays during the festive period.

He adds that while the repairs are still underway, he will be announcing temporary measures.
