Minister of Defence, her deputy and minister in the Presidency have been rescued after being held hostage.
A group of disgruntled military veterans held Defence minister Thandi Modise, her deputy, Thabang Makwetla, and minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele hostage at the St George’s Conference Centre in Irene, Pretoria yesterday evening.
The group had blocked the three from leaving a meeting between the Presidential Task Team on Matters of Military Veterans and Military Veterans.
The police’s Vishnu Naidoo says a Special Task Force had to be called in to rescue the three.
He says 56 people have been arrested and three were injured.
Meanwhile, Minister Gungubele has since given an account of the incident.
