The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal has evacuated over 200 people as heavy rains wreaked havoc in the province.
Three bodies were found next to a river in the KwaSeme area on Saturday.
Disaster management teams and emergency services officials remain on high alert, and a South African Weather Service Level ten warning remains in effect.
eThekwini mayor Mxolisi Kaunda says so far the greatest impact was expected along the coastal and north-eastern parts of the province.
