Former State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo says they did what they could as a department, ahead and during the time of civil unrest in July last year.
The minister has given her testimony at the SA Human Rights Commission, about the role of the security cluster during the the looting and violent spree seen in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Dlodlo says the state security agency did warn authorities as far back as May 2019, saying that unemployment and inequality were threatening the country’s stability.
She has defended her role in the cluster, saying that she was fairly new in the position and they did what they could under the circumstances the SSA faced.
