The head of the National Prosecuting Authority’s Investigating Directorate, Hermione Cronje, has resigned.
National Director of Public Prosecutions Shamila Batohi says Cronje has indicated the reasons for her decision and she fully understands.
Batohi says she will formally recommend that president Cyril Ramaphosa accept Cronje’s resignation, effective from the first of March next year.
She adds that this will enable a swift and responsible transition which will ensure that the Investigating Directorate’s work continues uninterrupted.
NDPP Deputy Director Ouma Rabaji-Rasethaba will support Cronje during the transition period.
