The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) has come out in full support of police who shot a guest in one of the Hotel in Johannesburg.
This follows a video that is circulating in the socials where a man can be seen arguing with the police while they trying to disarm him.
According to the police they were called in by the hotel manager who had asked the guest to leave these premises but refused, however, when the officers arrived the man started fighting with them. On the video the man is seen pulling out his gun pointing at the police and few seconds later he disarmed one officer of his firearm.
In a statement POPCRU says it was then when a police officer took out his service pistol and shot the man in the head.
Popcru spokesperson Richard Mamabolo says the actions of the officers were justified as their lives were all in danger.
The matter is currently being investigated by the Independent Police Investigating Directorate.
