Witness at the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Police officer Thabo Mosia says after taking photographs of Meyiwa’s crime scene, he protected and secured some of the visible evidence, including the bullet fragment, hat and walking stick.
Mosia took the stand as the first witness for the state to describe the scene on October 26 2014, not long after Meyiwa had been murdered.
The former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was gunned down in what was described as a botched robbery in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, in the presence of Kelly Khumalo, who was his girlfriend, and her mother Ntombi, sister Zandi, Zandi’s boyfriend Longwe Twala and his friends Mthokozisi Twala and Tumelo Madlala.
The State has accused Muzikawukhulelwa S’tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli of murdering Meyiwa during an armed robbery on 26 October 2014.
All the five men accused of Meyiwa’s murder have pleaded not guilty.
Mosia says on his arrival, he found his colleague Johan Ndlovu, who explained what had happened.
