IPID to probe the death of uMthwalume murder suspect

Police Minister, Bheki Cele, says he has instructed police watchdog IPID to probe the death of the uMthwalume murder suspect who’s believed to have committed suicide while in custody in
Scottsburg this morning.

The man was suspected of having a hand in the murder of five women whose bodies were found in a sugarcane field in UMthwalume south of the province last week.

Minister Cele is visiting the area, to assess the situation as well the investigation.

Cele says the deceased suspect was meant to take police to identify other crime scenes however was discovered dead before he could do so.
