The Department of Basic Education says a process is underway to address the shortage of teachers in the country.
The department has rectified the claim by teacher’s union, Naptosa, that the inefficiency of the department is what led to the dire shortage.
There are up to 24 000 teacher posts that remain unfilled with the most recorded in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and Limpopo.
Spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga has moved to clarify that the posts are filled, but a process still needs to be completed in filling the positions permanently.
