President Cyril Ramaphosa has reportedly called for the National Coronavirus Command Council to meet as soon as he returns from a trip to West Africa on Wednesday.
During the trip, Ramaphosa and other African presidents lambasted the travel bans imposed on some Southern African countries due to the Omicron Covid-19 variant.
South Africa’s Covid-19 cases have risen sharply over the past few days with Gauteng and now KZN being confirmed as having entered the Fourth Wave.
Fears are also rising over some hospitals battling to cope with the surge in cases.
It remains unclear if the command council will suggest stricter lockdown measures.
