Khanyile Out on Bail

The Durban Magistrates Court has granted alleged civil unrest instigator Bonginkosi Khanyile a R5000 bail.

Khanyile was charged with incitement to commit public violence and contravention of the Disaster Management Act linked to the July looting.

The state argued he mobilised people to intensify the unrest until former President Jacob Zuma was released from prison.

More than 350 people died in widespread violence in KKZ and Gauteng

In 2019 Khanyile was placed under house arrest after he pleaded guilty to charges relating to violent Fees Must Fall protests at the Durban University of Technology in 2016.

The case has been postponed to 23 September for transfer to regional court.

Delivering the judgement magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo says Khanyile must attend this matter until its finalised
