Social Development MEC, Nonhlanhla Khoza, says parents should believe their children, protect them and defend them at all times.
Khoza had been speaking at the gender based violence dialogue in Durban.
Last year President, Cyril Ramaphosa, unveiled an emergency action plan to combat violence against women and children, including the urgent release of more than R1 billion to tackle the scourge.
The MEC says even though there are a number of interventions that the provincial government had introduced to fight this scourge however it continues to increase.
Khoza has also called on women to stop trying to save their marriages and relationships at the cost of their kids.
