Elections for eThekwini mayor had to be postponed to tomorrow after they collapsed yesterday’s council meeting due to disruptions by ANC and EFF supporters.

Police had to escort this group of about 30 people, who stormed past the barricades and security guards into the meeting venue at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Before the disturbance, the council meeting had already seen a number of chaotic scenes, ranging from members complaining about the heat inside the venue, calling for mini-breaks, despite having an hour long lunch break.

The venue’s power supply was also mysteriously turned off.

The ANC’s Thabani Nyawose was however elected eThekwini Municipality council speaker.

Meanwhile, DA mayoral candidate Nicole Graham says it is clear the ANC does not have the numbers to win the mayor-ship position and is trying to delay process until its collapse.
