Durban police are investigating a case of kidnapping after a six-day-old baby was snatched from her mother.

The police’s Nqobile Gwala says the mother alleges that she left the King Edward Hospital carrying her baby.

She says while she was waiting for a bus, an unknown woman approached and befriended her.

Gwala adds that the woman offered to buy the young mother clothes and groceries for the baby after she learned that the mother was unemployed.

She says the mother left her baby in the hands of her new found friend to go to the shops.
