The Independent Police Investigating Directorate (IPID) says it is investigating an incident where a hotel guest was shot by the police in Johannesburg.

In a video that is circulating on social media the man can be seen arguing with the police while they trying to disarm him.

It is understood that this man was involved in an altercation with hotel staff and when police tried to intervene peacefully, that is when he tried to disarmed one of the police officer leading him to be shot.

IPID Spokesperson Grace Langa says the wife of the man who was shot at the hotel, the staff, as well as the video footage will form part of the investigation.

Langa says while no arrest have been made, the man is hanging by the thread in hospital.
