Prime Minister to the Zulu Monach and nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, has confirmed the passing of his majesty, King Goodwill Zwelithini ka Bhekuzulu.

In a statement chief Buthelezi, who is also the official spokesperson of the Royal Household, says his majesty passed away in hospital in the early hours of this morning.

He had previously confirmed that the King was admitted to ICU last month after several unstable glucose readings.

Buthelezi says the king’s health took a turn for the worst and he subsequently passed away.

Isilo was appointed to the throne when he was just a 20 year old student, following the passing of his father, King Cyprian Bhekuzulu kaSolomon in 1968.

His majesty was crowned as the eighth monarch of the amaZulu nation, at a traditional ceremony at KwaNongoma, north of KwaZulu-Naatal, on the 3rd of December 1971.
