KZN ANC Members Agree to Step Aside

ANC Secretary in KZN, Mdumiseni Ntuli, says most of the 12 ANC members in the province who are affected by the step-aside resolution have agreed to step aside with immediate effect.

Speaking at a media briefing in Durban, Ntuli says former eThekwini mayor, Zandile Gumede is one of these members.

The party’s national executive committee’s had taken a decision, that members facing criminal charges should step aside until such time that they are cleared by the courts on the charges they are facing.

Ntuli explains,

Ntuli adds that members of the party who have agreed to abide by the step aside resolution  will not be barred to contest leadership positions at the ANC’s branch general meetings.

He says some of the regions are ready to host their conferences, in preparation for the local government elections while some are still to convene their branch meeting.

On the controversial issue of supporting former president Jacob Zuma, Ntuli says the party will continue to support him when he appears in court.

Zuma is going back to the Pietermaritzburg High Court tomorrow as his corruption trial, eminating from the alleged bribes paid during the 1990s arms deal continues.

Ntuli says they will be there to support Zuma tomorrow.
