KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza says as government, they have a duty to ensure that people with disabilities are assisted in any way possible, that will make their lives in society manageable.

Khoza has handed over a vehicle to a Non-Profit Organisation in commemoration of the International Day of People with Disabilities, in Durban.

The beneficiary organisation, Mzamo Child Guidance & Training Initiative, deals with the plight of disabled people while fighting gender-based violence.

MEC Khoza says the department has taken upon itself to ensure that NPOs dealing with disabled people and GBV are given the resources to provide their services to the vulnerable.

According to Stats SA, one in five partnered women has experienced physical violence by a partner.

She says some of the department’s interventions include victims being accommodated in shelters along with their children.
