KZN Government Under Fire for Irregular Housing Project

The KwaZulu-Natal government has been forced to explain why it used asbestos in one of its housing projects.
This after 273 beneficiaries from the Gamalakhe informal settlement housing project in Port Shepstone, south of the province, reported their homes had asbestos roofing.
The provincial Human Settlements Department says it is already in the process of replacing the roofing with chromadek roof sheeting at a cost of R35-million.
It expects the remaining 20 houses to be refurbished by the end of next month.
