KZN’s class of 2020 National Senior Certificate, pass rate is at 77.6%, a decline from 2019’s 81.3%.

Mshengu says from the total number of  135 276 candidates who sat for their examinations last year, 104 985 passed with 51 060 Bachelor, 35 195 Diploma and 18 658 Higher Certificate passes.

Mshengu says despite the pandemic, teachers and learners refused to stand on the sideline but entered an arena to face a battle and won.

“It is also worth mentioning that the province seems to be on an upward trajectory when it comes to passing Mathematics, having moved up to 51 percent from 47 percent in the previous year. This is a good sign for a province like ours which has a desire to produce many learners with good results in Mathematics,” adds Mshengu
