KZN Mayor Dies of COVID-19

King Cetshwayo District Municipality Mayor Nonhle Mkhulisi has passed away  in the early hours of Thursday, due to COVID-19 related complications.

This has been confirmed by the District Municipality saying Mkhulisi was admitted in hospital at the end of December last year and has been fighting gallantly to survive the illness.

The late Mayor joined the District Municipality as a Deputy Mayor in 2015 then after 2016 Local Government elections, she was deployed as District Mayor of King Cetshwayo Municipality.

The 56 year-old was also the KwaZulu-Natal South African Local Government Association (SALGA) Charperson, since 2019.

“It is a profound loss to the people of the entire King Cetshwayo District, KwaZulu-Natal and the entire country. She was a dedicated leader, committed freedom fighter and championed a number of good causes from community development, organised labour and fought for women and children wellbeing, Covid-19, to say the least until her passing,” says District municipality Speaker, Khulani Hadebe.

The district says funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.
