KZN MEC for Public Works and Infrastructure, Martin Meyer, says the restoration of heritage sites requires specialised expertise, limiting the number of community members employed in these projects.
Meyer made this remark during a visit to the Thembalethu construction site in Pietermaritzburg to assess the situation after a group of protesters stormed the site yesterday, bringing construction to a complete halt.
During his visit, community members from Ward 27 demonstrated outside the construction site, demanding employment opportunities.
Meyer stated that they are committed to finding solutions to the community’s concerns.
