KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Sihle Zikalala, says they welcome the decision by cabinet and the National Coronavirus Command Council to extend the adjusted level 3 lockdown.

Zikalala had been addressing media in uMlazi, south of Durban.

He says as much as the restrictions under the national lockdown are straining most business and labour, they are playing a huge role in keeping people safe and alive.

KZN accounts for 20.5 percent of the country’s total confirmed COVID-19 cases.

Zikalala says this is why residents need to respect and adhere to all the set protocols, to ensure a decrease in the infections rate.

He says although COVID-19 infection numbers are continuously rising, the province still has enough beds for patients.

This is despite several complaints by heath unions, who have raised concern of overcrowding and a recent video showing patients laying on the floor at Wentworth Hospital in Durban.
